Houzz, an American home service website, publishes a research report on American bathroom trends every year. Recently, the 2021 version of the report was finally released. This year, the behavior trend of American owners when renovating toilets generally continued last year. Smart toilets, water-saving faucets, customized bathroom cabinets, shower rooms, bathroom mirrors and other products are still widely favored, and the overall decoration style is not different from that of last year. However, there are also some consumption characteristics worthy of attention this year. For example, more and more people take into account the needs of the elderly and even pets when renovating toilets, which is also the main reason why many enterprises have set foot in relevant fields in recent years.


Sanitary products

According to the report, in the renovation of toilet equipment, more than 80% of respondents replaced faucets, floors, walls, lighting, showers and countertops, basically the same as last year. The number of people who replaced the sink also reached 77%, 3 percentage points higher than last year. In addition, 65% of respondents changed their toilets.

Change the bath to shower

In recent years, European and American families have the trend of replacing bathtub with shower room. In this survey report, 24% of respondents said they had removed the bathtub after renovating the bathroom. Among such respondents, 84% said they had changed the bathtub to the shower room, an increase of 6 percentage points over last year.

More than 50% of respondents choose customizable bathroom cabinets

In the selection of bathroom cabinets, most respondents like customized products, accounting for 34%, and 22% of owners like semi customized products, reflecting that bathroom cabinets with customized elements are most popular with American users. In addition, many respondents still choose to use mass-produced products, accounting for 28%.

Most people have changed the bath mirror, and the anti fog function is favored

Among this year's respondents, 78% said they had replaced the bathroom with a new mirror, accounting for 78%. Among these people, more than half have more than one mirror installed, and some upgraded mirrors have more advanced functions. In addition, among the owners who replaced the mirror, 20% chose the products equipped with LED lights and 18% chose the products equipped with anti fog function. The proportion of the latter increased by 4 percentage points compared with last year.

More people pay attention to the sanitary function of intelligent toilet

This year, 36% of American owners replaced smart toilets. The functions of the intelligent toilet are nozzle (20%), self-cleaning (15%), seat ring heating (13%), splash proof (10%), built-in night light (10%), automatic flap (9%) and automatic deodorization (9%), which reflect that more Americans pay attention to the sanitary function of the intelligent toilet.

Water saving faucets are favored, and the audience of non-contact faucets is less

Among Americans who renovated toilets, 37% changed to faucets with advanced functions. Among them, faucets with water-saving characteristics are the most popular, with a selection degree of 28%; The second is the faucet without fingerprint, and the selection rate is 14%; The last is the non-contact faucet. The selection rate of this product is only 4%, reflecting that the market education and publicity of enterprises still need to be promoted.

Bathtub users gradually reduced, and the "flashy" function was abandoned

It is also pointed out above that more and more Americans are replacing bathtubs with shower rooms, which is also reflected in the selection of multi-functional bathtubs. This year, only 5% of respondents changed bathtubs, 6 percentage points less than last year. Among the people who chose to replace the bathtub, 8% chose the product with built-in light, 6% chose the product with warm backrest, and only 1% chose the bathtub with built-in aroma, built-in speaker and built-in massager.

Ceramic tiles are still the mainstream

Among the respondents who have renovated the shower area, 52% have introduced ceramic floor tiles in the shower area, a decrease of 4% over last year. In contrast, 17% of the respondents used marble, an increase of 4 percentage points over last year. In terms of wall tiles, many owners have replaced ceramic tiles, up to 69%, while marble is 17%. Both groups of figures are the same as last year.


Spatial collocation

This year, the space design adopted by American owners is roughly the same as last year. In terms of style, the spiritual style is still loved by many people, white still occupies the mainstream, and the selection rate of green plants is also high. However, this year, more people took into account the elderly, pets and other family members when renovating the bathroom, but their consideration of children is decreasing, which deserves the attention of export-oriented enterprises.

Popular wind, transitional wind and contemporary wind are still popular

In terms of bathroom style, the most respondents adopted popular style, reaching 20%, the same as last year and the year before last. The second is the transitional style between modern and traditional, accounting for 19%. The respondents who adopted contemporary style, traditional style and pastoral style were 18%, 10% and 5% respectively.

White is still the mainstream color

Whether in the bathroom cabinet, countertop, wall or ground, white is still the mainstream color in the bathroom. Among them, 58% of the respondents replaced the white table, an increase of 7 percentage points over last year. The respondents who chose white walls also reached 46%, the same as last year, significantly ahead of gray (16%), color (11%) and beige (11%). In terms of bathroom cabinets, white also took the lead, accounting for 32%, followed by log color (27%), gray (16%) and blue (8%).

More and more people consider the elderly and pets when renovating toilets

When renovating the bathroom, 54% of American owners took into account family members, including the elderly and pets. Among them, 27% of the respondents said that making the elderly comfortable to use the toilet is the top priority at present, while 39% of the respondents listed it as an important demand in the future. In addition, 7% of the respondents said that the renovation took into account the pets at home, even higher than for children (5%).

Of all respondents, 68% introduced green plants into the bathroom. Among them, 84% thought plants were beautiful and pleasant, 64% thought green plants could calm people, 34% said plants could improve air quality, and 7% thought plants could reduce odor and antibacterial.

This year, 50% of respondents renovated bathroom walls, an increase of 8 percentage points over last year. Among these people, 50% changed the wall material and wall pattern, 41% changed the wall color and 31% changed the wall texture.

● in this survey, one third of the respondents said that the trigger factor for the renovation of the toilet was that they "can't stand the old bathroom anymore", which is mainly manifested in the obsolescence of the toilet and the lack of storage space.



● in the United States, the most common size of toilets is less than 100 square feet (about 9.29 square meters), accounting for 43%; Followed by 100 to 199 square feet, accounting for 36%; The proportion of owners with 200 square feet or more continues to decline, but still accounts for 21%.



● this year, the median cost of renovating toilets by U.S. owners is $8000 (about 51000 yuan), the highest case is about $15000, and the lowest case is about $5000.
