Bathtub Shower Room

Bathtub Shower Room

If the appearance of fiberglass or acrylic doesn't appeal to you, and the limited color options give you pause, then you are the ideal person to install the most extensive shower/bathtub options available, with the shower over the bathtub.

Almost all tubs installed today include a shower built on top of the tub. You rarely see a bathtub by itself, except in a menstrual bathtub. In fact, the bathtub serves as a waterproof shower base. When using the shower, curtains or shower doors will close the tub. Shower doors are actually called "shower rooms," a term that refers to doors that replace shower curtains. The door slides outward or opens. The other three sides of the shower - called the "bathtub surround" - are usually tile.

But there are some new materials on the market for surround, and if you're planning a new shower, they're worth a look. The same is true for real stones such as granite and marble, although the skills required to cut, shape and install solid stone panels are still uncommon, and these are high-maintenance materials.

A classic recessed tub mounted on a tiled platform creates the effect of a sunken tub.

Even wood and metals, especially stainless steel and copper, have been used for showers. However, these are rare and expensive, and require almost daily maintenance.

But even with all the new materials, tile is still the gold standard for shower architecture. Tiles are the most designer-friendly material, with an almost unlimited range of colors and patterns that fit any decoration.

Still, many people don't like tile showers because they remember the broken, stained tile showers in their parents' bathrooms. However, things did change. Technology has eliminated almost all of the problems that plagued tile showers in the past. Waterproof and even waterproof backing surfaces have replaced the old "waterproof" drywall backing and completely eliminated leaks. The new polyurethanes and epoxies are very resistant to contamination, making the drudgery of scrubbing grout a thing of the past. Of course, not every tile is suitable for the damp environment of the bathroom.
