Why my Thermostatic Shower not working? Detailed analysis of the failure of Thermostatic Mixer Shower.

Conditions of using Thermostatic Mixer Shower:


1. Lacking water supply pressure: mainly supporting solar water heaters. Due to the solar water heaters do not have pressure, the pressure formed by the gap between the water heater and the shower leads to a large pressure difference with the cold water;

2. Lacking water supply temperature: the temperature of the hot water itself is not enough, below 50℃;

3. Impurities: The remaining sediment and impurities in the pipeline are not cleaned, and the thermostatic cartridge valve is stuck, which makes it impossible work to adjust the temperature. At present, more than 90% of the reason of thermostatic showers on the market do not produce hot water, which is caused by the trapped sand inside the cartridge;

4. Gas water heater: The preset temperature setting of the gas water heater does not match. The default setting temperature of the new type water heater is generally 38-40.

Analysis of thermostatic malfunction:


Abnormal: no hot water, no constant temperature

Cause: sediment stuck

The thermostatic cartridge is a high-precision product. The movable gap of the piston in the cartridge is only 0.5mm, and the one-sided is only 0.25mm. If the sand enters the cartridge, it is easy to jam the piston and cause it to be unable to move.

The fault analysis is summarized as follows:


A, only produced hot water, and the water is very hot (no low temperature):

1. No cold water: check if water supply of the cold water inlet is normal; turn the water on and turn the thermostatic handle clockwise to the lowest temperature, check the water outlet if there is cold water coming out;

2. The eccentrics or the washer of cold water inlet is blocked: please check if there's water in the eccentrics;

3. Thermostatic cartridge failure: Under water supply normally, no matter how to adjust thermostatic handle, only hot water output, unless it is screwed to the end of the coldest water end, it will all be cold water, and the water output is also very small;

4. The cold water inlet part of the thermostatic cartridge is blocked: the cold water inlet filter is blocked or the plunger is stucked.


B. Only output cold water, and it is also cold water at high temperature (no high temperature):

1. No hot water: Check whether the water supply at the hot water inlet is normal; Turn off the cold water inlet, turn on the switch, turn the thermostatic handle counterclockwise to the highest temperature, and check if there is hot water coming out;

2. The temperature of hot water is not high enough: the temperature of the hot water supply must be above 55 degrees (such as gas water heaters, check if the flame is turned off or turned on);

3. The thermostatic cartridge hot water inlet is blocked: the thermostatic cartridge hot water inlet filter is blocked or the plunger is stuck.


C, only cold water and warm water are output, water above 38is not hot (no high temperature):

1. The hot water pressure is too low: check whether the hot water supply pressure is more than 3-5 times lower than the cold water pressure;

2. The hot water eccentrics is not fully opened or the washer is blocked: to check if the hot water eccentrics and the washer are normal;

3. The temperature of the hot water supply is not high enough: check the temperature of the hot water supply;

4. Sediment and impurities enters the thermostatic cartridge: turn the thermostatic handle adjust to 38 degree, turn off the hot water supply, and check the water outlet status. Analysis: If no water or output very small that the thermostatic cartridge is normal; If there's output a lot of water that would be some mud or sand enters thermostatic cartridge and the plunger is stuck.


D, only warm water and hot water are supplied. The outlet water is not cold below 38°C (no low temperature):

1. The cold water pressure is too low: check the cold water supply;

2. Cold water eccentrics or filter clogged: check if they are normal;

3. The sediment enters thermostatic cartridge: Turn the thermostatic handle to 38 degree, turn off the cold water supply, and check the water outlet status. Analysis: If no water output or small that the thermostatic cartridge is normal; If larger water comes out that the thermostatic cartridge gets mud or impurities, the washer of cartridge is blocked or the plunger is stuck.


E. The hot water at 38 degree is very hot, the cold water end is hot water, and the hot water end is cold water, so the temperature cannot be adjusted:

The hot and cold water pipes are connected reversely: Turn on the thermostatic faucet, touch the wall connector with your hand, and check whether the left side is hot and the right side is cold; only output one type of water, when the temperature is 38 degrees, it is hot water. Rotate the handle to the hottest end, and all cold water will come out. Return to the 38 degree and let out cold water. Rotate the handle to the coldest end, all that comes out is hot water, and the one that comes back to the 38 degree is hot water. The temperature cannot be adjusted during operations above, if it can be adjusted to a stable temperature, it will change again after a while.


F, no water or low water flow:

1. Check if the hot and cold water inlets supply water normal; Turn on and switch the thermostatic handle clockwise to the lowest temperature, check the water outlet situation and see if there is cold water coming out. Screw it to the hot water end to see the hot water output;

2. The cold water is not passed or the hot water is not passed: there will be a result of low flow or no water flow;

3. Thermostatic cartridge failure: under water supply conditions normally, no matter how to adjust the water flow is small, mainly caused by the blockage of the cartridge;

4. The water inlet part of the thermostatic cartridge is blocked: the cold water inlet filter is blocked or the plunger is stuck.


G, No water at 38 degrees, normal or small water flow at the cold water end, no or very small water at the hot water end:

There is no water supply for hot water:

1. Check if the hot water supplied normally and whether the water heater is normal (water supply, temperature);

2. Check whether the connector of the hot water is blocked and affects the normal water flow.


H, No water or very small at 38 degrees, normal or small water at the hot water end as well as cold water end:

No cold water supply:

1. Check whether the cold water is normally supplied;

2. Check whether the cold water end is blocked or not, which affects the normal water flow.


I, the hot water temperature is not enough:

Limiting high temperature, not a quality problem: 1. The product is limited to high temperature 45 to 49 , no high temperature water; 2. The pressure difference between cold and hot water is large, and the cold water pressure is generally large, resulting in low temperature.


J, common failure situation of gas water heaters:


No ignition, or intermittent ignition. This situation causes the water to be cold and hot for a while, the main reason as below:

1. The temperature and flow rate of the water heater are not enough. Treatment: Adjust the gas water heater to a large flow rate, and increase the temperature to be above 55°C, and the flame will be too high;

2. If the water pressure of the water supply is very low, we recommend customer to install a booster pump.
