From thermostat shower valves and hybrid showers to shower panels and more - not to mention a wide range of style and finish options - it`s no surprise that choosing the right shower to complement your bathroom style can be quite tricky.
So to help you and make things easier, we`ve found everything you need to know about showers, including the different types, the way they`re made and things to consider before buying.
Choosing the right shower can be a difficult decision, especially with the wide variety of showers available. If you do your research first, you will be better able to make the right choice for your needs
There are many factors to consider when buying a shower, such as water pressure and the type of water system. Check out our guide on how to create an amazing bathing experience, where you will learn about water pressure and different types of water supply systems.
How does a shower work?
Different types of showers work in different ways.
The Shower Valve takes hot and cold water from your existing system and mixes the water in the body cartridge. Water is then sent through the shower head at a temperature and flow rate that you can control.
The electric shower is fed with cold water and heated by an electric element to supply water through the shower head at a temperature of your choice.
The shower plate works in the same way as a shower valve because it receives a supply of hot and cold water and mixes it at your ideal temperature. However, they require higher water pressure to ensure optimum performance.
How is a Shower Made?
Most shower valves are made of cast brass with a ceramic spool and a chrome finish. Electric showers are made of plastic molds that cover the electrical parts and other functional parts of the shower. The shower plate is pre -connected to connect the shower valve, main nozzle and shower head - it`s easier to install than other types of showers, but it requires a high -pressure water supply.
Clean shower
Many household cleaning products contain abrasives and chemicals and should not be used to clean coated parts. Instead, use a mild detergent or soap solution and dry with a soft cloth.
Thermostatic shower valves are exposed to retro, chrome and black styles
Shower Terminology Busters - a quick overview
Buying a quality shower that meets your needs is an essential part of your new bathroom, and we know it can be hard to choose the right one when you`re faced with a lot of ridiculous jargon. So, to make things clearer, here are some words and phrases you might come across while shopping for a new bath.
Concealed Shower Valve
A hidden shower valve is built into the wall and controls the flow and temperature of the water.
Open the installed shower valve
Exposed shower valves are mounted on the wall and control water flow and temperature. Exposed shower valves require less installation work than concealed shower valves.
Hand shower valve
If another outlet is used elsewhere in your home, the manual shower valve will not maintain the required water temperature and pressure.
Continuous temperature shower valve
Thermostatic shower valves provide precise temperature and flow control and are designed to prevent temperature fluctuations when using other outlets elsewhere in the home.
In liters per minute, flow is the amount of water produced by different showers, depending on the type of shower system and water supply in your home. The higher the flow rate, the more the amount of water, resulting in a more powerful shower.
Water system
This is the type of plumbing in your home. The three main types of water systems are gravity, pressure and combined boilers.
Select the shower valve
The shower valve controls the flow of water to the outlet. Some valves are thermostatically controlled while Others are manually controlled - we explain the differences here.
Hand shower valve
An easy -to -use manual shower valve usually has a lever to control temperature and flow. The manual shower valve does not have a thermostat.
